Immediately following, renowned tenor Michael Hendrick (89C) provided an unforgettable performance in Ford Auditorium.
The Berry Alumni Association Centennial Celebration officially began during Alumni Weekend 2008 and will end on Founder’s Day 2009 – with several fun celebrations held in between.
Precursors to the official kick- off included a January volunteer service project during which 77 alumni gave a total of 217 hours
to “puff” (final) clean the new Cage Center for its grand opening. This was followed by a May “Reunion Zero” celebration for our newest association members and a grand commencement march by the class of 1958C in honor of their 50th anniversary reunion.
Alumni Weekend 2008 got off to a great start with the Berry Alumni Association’s Grand Birthday Party and Alumni Awards and Recognitions Dinner. The celebration was replete with a birthday cake and included the announcement of the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award winners (see page 10), recognition of Berry’s 10 most senior alumni and the unveiling of the Walter A. Johnson Sr. (12H) portrait. Immediately following, renowned tenor Michael Hendrick (89C) provided an unforgettable performance in Ford Auditorium.
Other weekend highlights included campus tours, a Berry Alumni Association History Exhibit, a Berry Alumni Association Centennial Art Exhibit, 10 different class reunions, a golf scramble, a jazz reception on the lawn of Oak Hill and the Golden Guard induction ceremony. Approximately 600 alumni and their guests attended.
On the heels of Alumni Weekend came Alumni Work Week. Approximately 175 alumni and their spouses, friends and family members spent the week on campus completing facility and grounds maintenance projects. Over the course of the week, this fantastic alumni group gave approximately 3,000 hours of volunteer service to Berry.naming project continues, with the goal of raising $100,000 through the naming of 100
Not-to-be-missed centennial celebrations will continue at Mountain Day (Oct. 3-4) and at a special student and alumni event (Sept. 20) that will include an outdoor movie – Remember the Titans, which was partially filmed at Berry – as well as an alumni association birthday party. The centennial also will be recognized during fall commencement and celebrated as part of ongoing regional alumni events. In addition, the Berry alumni Cage Center seats by alumni ($1,000 each). The centennial will conclude during a special three-day Founder’s Day celebration, Jan. 29-31, which will be highlighted by a concert by internationally recognized pianist Roberto McCausland- Dieppa (81C), pictured above.
