I believe that the majority of music lovers in our area are unaware of the continuing contributions the Rome area makes to the world of musc.  Much of our community remains oblivious to the rather impressive list of artists who at any one time lived and performed only for the local public.

This summer former, Rome artists are thrilling audiences in some very impressive places.  Here are just a few of them:

When tenor Michael Hendrick was a student at Berry College, his voice could be heard frequently among the find singers ins Rome’s First United Methodist Church Choir.  This current summer has been a real coming out for the tall energetic singer.  During May and early June, Michael sang with the prestigious Opera Theatre of St. Louis, sharing the stage with starts of New York Metropolitan Opera in a production of Britten’s “Billy Budd”.

Literally the next day after closing that production, Michael then flew to Aspen, Colo. where he is now singing the lead tenor role of Don Jose in Bizet’s “Carmen” with the Aspen Music Festival.

Romasn have a right to feel their place in the musical world is secure.  The world’s stages are graced with home-grown product, and we as a community look upon these artists with admiration and pride.
