The featured soloists will be Geraldine Ramey as Irma, Joyce Corley as Musette and Michael Hendrick as Ladislaus. Jennifer McCoy, a freshman piano and music education major, will accompany the Berry Singers.
The Berry College Music Department will open its fall concert series Monday with the presentation of the comic opera, “The Fortune Teller.”
All of the concerts are free and open to the public.
Scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Berry College Chapel on the campus, U.S. 27 north of Rome, the performance of Victor Herbert’s opera will be presented by the Berry Singers under the direction of Harry Musselwhite, assistant professor of music at Berry.
Composed in 1898, the operetta is a comical musical which takes place in the mythical kingdom of Livonia and features duets, trios and quartets.

On Tuesday, the series will continue with a one-hour performance by the Berry Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. William H. Robinson.
The event will be held at 8 p.m. in the Ford Auditorium, also located on the campus.
The concert will feature jazz charts and improvisations by students. The show will include such tunes as “Groovemaker,” “Jillian,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “Only Yesterday,” “Back in the Sack, Jack,” and “I Can’t Stop Loving You.”
Featured improvisationalists will be Tim Gilreath, alto saxophone; Spence Herron, trumpet; Brent Fortson, piano; Ruth Maney, tenor saxophone; Dewaine Johnson, trombone; and Emery Warnock, trumpet.
On Thursday, there will be a concert by the Berry Symphonic Band at 8 p.m. in the Ford Auditorium.
Under the direction of Dr. Darwin G. White, the band will feature three chorale preludes, “Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light,” “O Sacred Head Now Wounded,” and “Now Thank We All Our God,”
The band will also include music from the “Giles Farnaby Suite,” “March Militaire Francaise” and “The Hounds of Spring.”
The series will conclude with the performance of Handel’s “Messiah” by the Berry Concert Choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 at the Berry College chapel.
The choir will be accompanied with an orchestra under the direction of Musselwhite. Student soloists and an orchestra of Berry wind players and string players from Atlanta will be featured.
The choir will highlight the Christmas section of the oratorio during the concert.
